Rajya Sabha: a member from Gujarat, and Leader of the House

Jagat Prakash Nadda has been a member of the Rajya Sabha — the Council of States — since April 2012: two terms elected from Himachal Pradesh, and, since April 2024, a term elected from Gujarat that runs to April 2030.

In June 2024 he was named Leader of the House. Under the Rajya Sabha’s Rules of Procedure, the Leader of the Council is the Prime Minister if a member of the House, or a minister who is a member and is nominated by the Prime Minister. The Leader represents the Government’s side of the House in arranging its business.

Because he is also a Cabinet Minister, his parliamentary work combines two roles: answering for the Ministries of Health and Family Welfare and of Chemicals and Fertilizers, and coordinating the Government’s business in the Upper House.

8 September 2026 — India received two WHO South-East Asia Region recognitions at the Regional Committee in Dili: for placing more than 94 million people on protocol-based management of hypertension and diabetes, and for sustaining the elimination of maternal and neonatal tetanus.

21 February 2026 — Launch of the indigenous Td vaccine at the Central Research Institute, Kasauli.
